Huazhong University of Science and Technology includes Tongji Medical College following the university merger in 2000. The six-year MBBS admission route is in English, with English, bilingual and Chinese teaching at different stages of medical study. Medical Chinese prepares students for patient communication. Pharmacy and several engineering degrees are separate four-year English-taught programmes.

Scholarship options.

• Funding for English MBBS

  The English MBBS fee plan covers self-funded study. Chinese University Program awards fund postgraduate study. The 2026 undergraduate Silk Road awards cover Chinese-taught Software Engineering and Architecture, rather than MBBS.

Entry requirements.

• Qualification and nationality

  Non-Chinese citizens in good physical and mental health, completing or having completed high school. Relevant Chinese-origin cases require foreign nationality before 30 April 2022 and two years abroad during 1 May 2022–30 April 2026; nine months counts as one year.

• English

  TOEFL 80, IELTS 5.5 or accepted equivalent. Duolingo 110 requires programme-specific acceptance assessment through FirstLiners. Native English or previous English-medium education may qualify for exemption after evidence review.

• CSCA and department assessment

  English MBBS requires Mathematics and Chemistry. Pharmacy and Biomedical Engineering list the same subjects. Other degrees have programme-specific assessments; departmental interview may apply.

• Under-18 applicants

  Applicants under 18 on 1 September 2026 require authorisation and a legal-guardian guarantee in China.

• TOEFL 80 or IELTS 5.5 meets the English requirement. Duolingo 110 requires programme-specific acceptance assessment.

  Foreigner Physical Examination Form.

• Non-criminal record

  Certificate required.

• Financial support

  Financial or bank certificate showing at least USD 5,000; evidence of available funds, not an additional fee.

• Guardian documents

  Applicants under 18 on 1 September 2026: authorization and guarantee from a legal guardian in China.

• Translation rules

  Documents in Chinese or English; other languages require an official notarized translation.

Application and arrival
