Harbin Medical University traces its history to a medical school founded by Wu Lien-teh in 1926. Its six-year English-taught MBBS combines medical-school study and hospital training. Admission includes document review, a university examination in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English, and an interview. These assessments are separate from the CSCA requirement.

  • Medical-school and hospital training

    The English MBBS lasts six years and combines medical-school study with hospital training. The university has nine affiliated hospitals, including five directly affiliated hospitals.

  • Your study budget

    Plan for the full MBBS tuition, accommodation, insurance and living expenses. The fee totals do not include a scholarship reduction. FirstLiners manages your admission file and funding plan.

Scholarships depend on eligibility, selection and any required review. Plan for the full fees until an award is granted; fee subtotals do not include scholarship deductions.

BEFORE YOU APPLY

Entry requirements.

  • Age and nationality — 2026

    Non-Chinese citizen holding a valid ordinary passport; ages 18–21 for male applicants and 18–22 for female applicants.

  • Education and health — 2026

    High-school graduate or final-year high-school student with a satisfactory academic record; physically and mentally healthy.

  • English — 2026

    TOEFL ≥70 or IELTS Academic overall 6.0. Native English speakers are exempt. Applicants taught entirely in English at high school may submit the school’s medium-of-instruction certificate instead.

  • Assessment — 2026

    Written-examination exemption criteria: GPA ≥3.3, or B or above in all subjects, or at least 80% in all subjects. Other applicants take the university examination in high-school mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and English. Interview assesses language, academic and general ability.

  • Nationality history — 2026

    Chinese-origin applicants undergo nationality review. Applicable applicants must have held foreign nationality/passport for at least four years and resided abroad for two of the previous four years; nine months abroad counts as a year.

  • CSCA—2026

    CSCA participation and a score report are required. Your FirstLiners application plan sets out your test subjects and paper language.

  • Male applicants must be aged 18–21; female applicants 18–22. Eligibility is assessed from the passport date of birth.
  • CSCA participation and a score report are required.
  • The separate university examination covers Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English.
YOUR APPLICATION FILE

Documents to prepare.

Provide the complete application file to FirstLiners. Keep clear scans and originals for enrolment checks.

  • University application form

    Complete the HMU form accurately in Chinese or English. Review every entry against the identity and academic records before submission; later changes are not accepted.

  • Passport

    Scan the first page of a valid ordinary passport. Check the personal information against the application form and obtain any additional nationality-review records required for your circumstances.

  • High-school diploma

    School-stamped diploma certified by the issuing country’s Ministry of Education or Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Present originals and certification upon enrolment.

  • Expected-graduation certificate, if applicable

    Final-year students submit a certificate issued by their high school and must obtain the diploma before entering HMU.

  • High-school transcripts

    School-stamped academic transcripts. Final-year applicants submit every completed high-school year to date. The 2026 written-test exemption uses GPA at least 3.3, all subjects B or above, or all subjects at least 80%; the interview and CSCA requirements remain separate.

  • English certificate or exemption evidence

    TOEFL at least 70 or IELTS Academic overall 6.0 for this programme; or school-issued confirmation that every high-school course was taught in English. Native-speaker exemption applies.

  • Physical examination

    Physical-examination certificate or report in the required format and period coordinated by FirstLiners.

  • Police clearance

    Valid no-criminal-record certificate from local police, normally issued within six months before application submission.

  • Optional supporting evidence

    Optional financial guarantee, awards, merit certificates, community-service records or special-skills certificates.

  • Translations and certification

    Non-Chinese/non-English documents require original plus notarized Chinese or English translation. Multi-page documents must be stamped on each page or across sheet edges. Chinese embassy/consular notarization is recommended.

  • Originals and supplementary verification

    Original documents may be requested for checking. Submissions are not returned regardless of outcome, and later changes are not accepted; review the complete file before sending it. Bring original qualifications and certifications for the university’s enrolment checks.

  • CSCA score report

    CSCA participation and a score report are required. FirstLiners coordinates subjects, paper language and the deadline. Exemption from the separate university written examination does not waive CSCA.
